A walk around Ischia

Giardini La Mortella, one of the most beautiful gardens in Italy

On the road leading to Forio, a stop at the luxuriants gardens La Mortella is mandatory, which is among the ten most beautiful in Italy.

Lady Susana Walton, wife of the famous English composer Sir William, began to create this marvel around her new residence on the Island in 1956, following a project by the great landscape architect Russell Page. The park, which she expanded and adapted over the years, houses countless collections of singular and very rare plants, originally from the tropical belt, perfectly acclimatized on the island. The oldest garden and the garden of Mediterranean plants on the crags of the hill, added over the time, are part of an extraordinary sensory journey. The natural oasis hosts concerts by young musicians and international orchestras in the summer, thanks to the commitment of the Walton Foundation, entrusted with the immortal musical heritage of the Master and the botanical heritage of Lady Susana.
